State Grid (SGCC) Jiangsu announced that Fenghai and Tonghai, the two 500KV UHV power transmission projects, had obtained NDRC permits recently.

The two projects with total investment of CNY 5.18 billion, will start construction this year and will be put in operation by the end of 2021. It is estimated that the two transmission lines will deliver 17.3 billion kWh of green energy to the south of Jiangsu each year, where major power consumption centers are located.

In recent years, Jiangsu's new energy power generation has been developing rapidly, especially offshore wind power, whose current cumulative installed capacity reaches 4.53 GW. Jiangsu has become the largest offshore wind power base so far in the country. In addition, another 8.34 GW of offshore wind power in Jiangsu is under construction or in the planning stage. It is expected that by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the total scale of offshore wind power in Jiangsu will reach about 13GW, with total generation capacity comparable to the maximum demand load of Nanjing city in 2019.
