Guangdong aims to realize 42GW of renewables installed capacity by 2025 and seeks central government support in developing offshore wind in EEZ

During a time when the market is curious about the new 14th Five-Year Plan, Guangdong is trying to be one of the first provinces to unveil its provincial 14FYP strategic focus.

In the recent Action Plan to Boost New Energy Strategic New Emerging Industries in Guangdong, a list of targets and tasks covering 9 major disciplines of New Energy have been formulated as follows:

As one of the key industries to be fostered, Guangdong’s offshore wind power industry has a very clear developmental tactic in the coming five years. By the end of 2025, 15GW of offshore wind power will be put in operation, and the province will be tapping into opportunities in the far-deep sea areas including the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The new Action Plan dedicated to New Energy development from 2021 to 2025 has obtained the endorsement from the five key government departments namely Guangdong Development and Reform Commission, Guangdong Energy Administration, Guangdong Department of Science and Technology, Guangdong Department of Industry and Informatization, Guangdong Department of Natural Resources, and Guangdong Department of Ecology and Environment. (Guangdong DRC)
