On December 2, the leaders of China and Russia witnessed the launch of the eastern natural gas pipeline between the two countries.
Annual gas supply capacity is to reach 38 billion cubic meters when the pipeline is fully operational, at which point Russia will begin supplying 1 trillion cubic meters of natural gas to China over the next 30 years. In effect, “this will increase bilateral trade between China and Russia to USD 200 billion in 2024,” according to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The gas pipeline on the eastern line of China and Russia begins in eastern Siberia, Russia and enters the Heihe River in Heilongjiang Province from Blagoveshchensk. About 3,000 kilometers of the pipeline are on Russian soil, while 3,371 kilometers will be built in addition to the existing 1,740 kilometers in Chinese territories. (Baijiahao)
