The National Energy Administration (NEA) has set new energy storage targets for 2025, which aims to effectively realize the development of new energy storage from the initial stage of commercialization to large-scale development transformation, and make progress in producing low-cost, highly-reliable, long-life storage.

The installed capacity target is now to reach over 30GW as new energy storage is playing a major role in removing carbon from the energy sector. By 2030, the sector should aim to realize comprehensive market-oriented development so that the scale of new energy storage installed capacity basically meets the corresponding needs of the new power system requirement to become one of the key supporting factors for carbon peak and carbon neutrality in the energy sector.
